Dear UFSPA Members:
Please continue reading for very important information about the upcoming meeting and vote to ratify our new contract!
Who Can Vote?
All UFSPA members*
*Due to the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Janus v. AFSCME case this week (watch the brief video below to better understand the case), there are no longer any “fair share feepayers”. All individuals are either members of UFSPA or not members. If you are not a member and wish to vote on the contract, you’ll need to be a member. You may contact the Bloomington IEA Office if you wish to join UFSPA and be able to vote on the contract.
Where Will the Meeting and Vote Occur?
We will be meeting in the Chiddix Junior High School Cafeteria, with voting occurring right outside the cafeteria.
When Will the Meeting and Vote Occur?
The meeting and vote are scheduled for Wednesday, July 11, 2018. Voting will be open from 2 pm until 4 pm*. The meeting will begin at 2 pm* and should be over by 3pm. All members are encouraged to attend the meeting before voting, but members may vote anytime between 2 pm-4 pm*, even if you don’t or can’t attend the meeting.
*The Board has a meeting the evening of July 11 and would like to take action to approve the contract that evening, pending our ratification of the Agreement. Therefore, they’ve requested our meeting and vote conclude early enough that they can then take action on it that evening. The Administration has agreed to allow any members who need to, to leave work early enough to get to Chiddix for the meeting and vote. We’ve asked the District administration to communicate with building administrators. Please talk with your building administrator, and let UFSPA know if there are any issues.
What Will We Be Voting On?
The details of the Tentative Agreement have been posted on the UFSPA website: http://www.ufspa.org/news/tentative-agreement-contract-changes-highlights-2/
Please review those details prior to voting. There are options at the end of that post for asking questions prior to the meeting and vote if you would like.
What Should You Do Before Voting?
- Please review the details of the agreement at the link provided above.
- To better understand the financial impact of the contract for you individually, please also make sure you know what step of the schedule you are currently on. You can find this information in Skyward!
- Tell your colleagues and make sure they are coming as well!
See you July 11!
